Most truly successful entrepreneurs share a common belief that no amount of success is ever enough. But even with an insatiable drive to be the best, successful entrepreneurs know that they too must take breaks and recharge their batteries to continue to grow their businesses. Gillian O’Brien Managing Director for Frontline Events tells us “Entrepreneurs who work continuously can suffer from burnout and this can cause serious problems for their business they will start missing opportunities and start making mistakes, sometimes the best thing for your business is you taking a break and enjoy your success.”

There is no single correct formula. Some authors will tell you that you must take time completely away from the office with no communication while you are gone. This shouldn’t be the case, for some entrepreneurs the stress of being away and not knowing what is going on could be very damaging. What is beneficial is being in contact with the office without actually being needed in any way shape or form.

“You will need to be in communication in some form without being needed, or you will probably drive yourself crazy wondering what is going on in the office. As an entrepreneur it is important to take a step back and evaluate where your business is and if you feel your business is in a good situation, then take a break and enjoy it.” Commented Frontline Events Managing Director Gillian O’Brien.

The next step is probably the most difficult, you just have to do it. Schedule your time off and go, book a trip somewhere, go exploring, go on a cruise or even just take time off at home with your family. A trip abroad is probably more likely to cut it though as you will have to go and there is no chance of you thinking about going back to the office until your trip is over.

“This is definitely the hard part, you just need to bite the bullet and go for it, a trip abroad will allow you to be totally away from the office and you will still be able to have some to contact for peace of mind more than anything. Planning these trips based on setting goals has been crucial to my success. Once I have hit a certain goal, I will treat myself to some time off.” Added Gillian O’Brien Managing Director for Frontline Events.

Gillian O’Brien is the Managing Director of leading Manchester based Marketing Promotions company, Frontline Events. When asked to speak in New York City to other Entrepreneurs, Gillian stated ‘it was an opportunity I just could not turn down’.

New York City is one of the largest cities in the world split up into five boroughs with the most recognisable being Manhattan. Frontline Events’ Managing Director, Gillian O’Brien had this to say “New York is an exciting place to be it is certainly bigger than you could imagine, especially for me, as I was born in Ireland, so both places are completely different. Whilst there on a recent business trip and speaking publicly to other entrepreneurs, I had a chance to do a little sight-seeing, and it was incredible. A city like no other.”

New York is the most important city in the world when it comes to financial trading with the city controlling 40% of the World’s finances and this makes it the largest financial centre in the world. It is the second largest city economy in the world behind Tokyo. The city attracts companies from all over the world not just trade companies but media, technology and chemical companies.

New York has been hit by the recession like most of the world and it has affected the employment rate in the city but it is recovering and the employment rate is going up steadily. It shows that the city is pulling through the recession and out of the worst. “The economic climate is not great in a lot of places in the world but New York are pushing through the worst of it and growth is increasing and as a result the unemployment rate is falling.” Added Gillian O’Brien Managing Director for Frontline Events.

The fabulous world of fashion hits Liverpool with a bang this week and Frontline Events are cheering on the amazing creative talents of all the organisers, designers and artists who help make this event one of the biggest Liverpool has seen yet!

This year’s Liverpool Fashion Week is now in full flow, so Frontline Events MD Gillian O’Brien is delighted to get the opportunity to attend some of the fabulous catwalk shows and live entertainment it has to offer. Liverpool Fashion Week runs from the 15th – 20th October and delivers a total of 50 fashion shows across some of Liverpool’s most prestigious venues, including Leo Casino, Capital Building, The Maritime Museum on Albert Dock and the stunning Hilton Hotel at Liverpool One. The 50 shows are a tribute to 50 years of the Beatles, another amazing success story from the city. These venues are seeing many great local designers and models take part in catwalk shows across the 6 nights, with entertainment provided from a host of the UK and Ireland’s most up and coming music stars. There was also a special appearance from 80’s popstar and friend of Simon Cowell, Sinitta who opened the show on Monday night.

Frontline Events said “This is a great opportunity to showcase the amount of talent we have here in the Northwest. It’s the biggest fashion event of the year in the North of England and there’s so much behind the scenes work and preparation that goes into it, more than you can ever imagine watching the finished product you see on stage. The organisers have done such an amazing job”. Gillian O’Brien of Frontline Events adds “I love anything and everything to do with fashion but never get the time or opportunity to go and watch live shows in action. To have this exciting event so close is a brilliant chance for me to experience not only the fashion but the amazing atmosphere of an event like this. I am of course hoping to spot some famous faces in the crowd aswell, haha”.

With Frontline Events themselves always promoting, encouraging and mentoring young entrepreneurs in their own industry, it’s no surprise to see them so supportive of the new young talent Liverpool Fashion Week is showcasing. “It’s great for the all the new designers here to have such media interest, both locally and internationally. From radio to TV, national papers to high fashion glossy mags, I’m sure the new talent will get some well-deserved mentions across the country. A good friend of mine from Dublin, Keith Cullen, is also performing on Friday so I’m delighted for all the new artists there just like him getting some recognition for all their hard work to date aswell”.

As the week draws to a close at the Hilton on Saturday, the closing event looks set to be even more exciting, with more live entertainment and an after party sure to be jam-packed with some of Liverpool’s most famous faces. A fantastic end to an equally fantastic week of fashion.

As a business owner, Frontline Events MD Gillian O’Brien knows only too well the difficulties that arise from trying to find the right balance between a successful career and life outside of work. Mastering time management gives her the opportunity to carry on doing what she loves to do the most as well as giving her business the attention it requires.

Any new start-up requires a lot of time and energy to pull out the desired results. The good thing is that as time goes on business owners tend to discover more ways to make their time more productive. Time management can be viewed in many different ways but as Gillian O’Brien from Frontline Events realised, “in business time can have two meanings, the first being ‘clock time’ (60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day etc.), and the other is ‘real time’ (how long time actually FEELS like because of what task you are carrying out!)

Over the seven years Frontline Events has been running, Gillian has tried many ways of being more efficient with her time, including schedules, reminders and simply planning ahead. The problem with schedules is that you never pencil in any time for when things go wrong! This can leave you lagging on your schedule and running behind on some important tasks. What Gillian found was she worked longer hours in order to get through everything that was required. The follow on effect of this meant she had much less time for herself to do the other things she enjoyed doing.

Gillian O’Brien said: “After sitting down and taking a look at why the schedules weren’t working, I realised that it’s not just about how efficient you are, it’s more about how EFFECTIVE you are! We become very good at just occupying our time and thinking we’re really busy, but when you actually break it down you realise that approximately 80% of your results come from only 20% of your effort. If you concentrate on the top 20% of what you need to do to get results, you find that not only does your business grow but you have more time available to have fun! Once I realised this I found that it makes much more sense to just prioritise the key things that are actually going to make a difference to the growth of my business that day, and the less important things can get left until the end.”

So if we take Frontline Events advice it seems it’s very simple, once you focus more on the result you need from the day instead of an endless list of things you think you need to do, everything starts to fall into place. You start to have more time to still enjoy your personal life, spending time with friends and family and overall feeling a lot more positive about both aspects of your life.

Each person is different, so how they choose to get the balance right for them will vary, but it is essential to always be able to take time for yourself and do what you enjoy doing. It makes you more productive in your work environment too. Sometimes it is just a case of trialling different things to see what works for you, but keep in mind that there are two aspects of time, ‘clock time’ and real time’ , and when you can make this time-management method a habit, that’s when you’ll really start to move forward.

No matter how many generations you look back over, centuries even, there has always been a legendary historic figure that is remembered to this day for their famous words of inspiration, or their quotes highlighting their dedication to succeed. Frontline Events MD, Gillian O’Brien, takes a look into these inspirational speakers, their words of wisdom and what impact it has had on her business.

Anyone who has worked in direct marketing will understand that there is a lot of focus on positivity and how important it is to adopt a ‘can do’ attitude, Gillian O’Brien, Frontline Events MD says “To Frontline Events, the importance of sharing the insight of these geniuses comes as a second nature. In the modern day, people are so used to hearing negatives from each other, like: “No, you’ll never do that….”, “You’re not allowed…..” , “It’s impossible to…..” Yet if you listen to any entrepreneurial speaker, either present day or in the past they all encourage people and tell you that you can achieve whatever you want to, just as they themselves have done. They tell you to go with your heart, do what you love, think the unthinkable and do the undoable, so we need to change our “believe it when I see it” mentality and promote that way of thinking a lot more “

Inspiration, motivation and dedication have not only been passed down just by words either, it’s been shown through the emotion and feelings in music, art and theatre, and also in sports men and women when they put everything into their game! Muhammed Ali was arguably the best sports man of all time and gave some of the most incredible speeches before his fights. Nelson Mandela gave faith to people through all of his campaigning for the rights of black people in South Africa and to this day for his support for peace. Vincent Van Gogh showed it through his paintings; Albert Einstein displayed it through the teaching of his scientific findings, Vince Lombardi through his training and coaching of the Green Bay Packers, Sir Richard Branson and Sir Alan Sugar through their autobiographies, interviews and conferences. All of these people have thought out side of the average, believed in themselves and their vision and never believed that they couldn’t achieve what they wanted.

Frontline Event’s Managing Director, Gillian O’Brien says “There is so much advice around to help people change their mentalities in order to adopt a better life style, aim higher and achieve bigger goals. When you study each of these people individually, you will see that they all have the same message. No dream is ever too big or out of your reach. Work hard enough and have a plan in place and you will achieve whatever you want.”

Inspiration, motivation and dedication aren’t just words…. They are actions and you are in control!

Frontline Events Ltd have chosen Farrah Gray as their entrepreneur of the month as this phenomenal young man has achieved much success in his short life and they hope others are as inspired as them to learn from him.

At the age of just 27, Gray is a multi-millionaire but what’s more surprising about his story is how he has achieved all he has from when he started on his business venture, making his first million dollars by the age of 14. Frontline Events Ltd reveal Farrah Gray, known as ‘The ultimate American Success Story’, came from a single parent family in Chicago, America. He used to see his mother rally around working and when he saw her struggling he wanted to find a way to make his family live a much better life, because in his own words “They didn’t have a comfortable life.”

Frontline Events Ltd outline that at the tender age of six, Farrah started selling body lotion for $1.50 going door-to-door. He also used to find rocks and paint them to sell them on to his neighbours. He recalls “My neighbours used to say to me, isn’t that the rock that was in my garden?” to which he replied “It was but you can now use it as a doorstop, or a book weight! It has many different uses!” Even at this young age he showed an imagination to turn everyday items into household goods and ways to make money. When he was 7, he carried a business card that read “21st Century CEO.” He remembered his school teacher crushing his dream of becoming a millionaire by saying that he would never make it and pointed in the direction of McDonald’s. Returning home Farrah asked his grandmother, a woman he claims influenced his entrepreneurial mentality, why he couldn’t be a millionaire, she told him “If you put your mind to anything and you really want it, you can be whatever you want to be.” These were some of the most influential words of his life. Frontline Events MD, Gillian O’Brien comments ‘This is such a simple yet powerful message which has influenced Farrah’s success’.

At the age of 8 Farrah Gray started “Urban Neighborhood Economic Enterprise” (UNEEC), at 9 he co-hosted ‘Backstage Live’ radio that pulled in 12 million listeners on Saturday nights. Frontline Events Ltd were astonished to learn by the age of 12 he was able to make between $5,000 – $10,000 for speeches and personal appearances. At 13 Farrah started ‘Farr-Out Foods’ which were maple syrup based foods aimed at young people. By the age of 14 his sales had hit $1.5 million making him a self-made millionaire.

Frontline Events Ltd are inspired by Farrah Grays story. He has covered so many different walks of life by sharing his inspirational story, he has written books, he’s a spokesman for the National Coalition for the Homeless, he’s opened business’ in different sectors and all down to a strong mind-set that nothing will stand in his way. He has a complete lack of fear to for failure’ says Frontline Events Ltd MD.

When Frontline Events Ltd attended a conference in London earlier this year, they were ecstatic to hear the main speaker was none other than Dragons’ Den panellist and entrepreneur, James Caan.

James Caan may be best known to the general public for his appearances in the hit BBC show, Dragons Den, but James has been a successful entrepreneur for many years before that and currently, at the age of fifty-one, is worth an estimated £70million. Having founded three successful businesses’, two of which he sold around 1999. Frontline Events Ltd follow the entrepreneur’s successes.

James Caan’s family immigrated to the UK from Pakistan when he was two and-a-half years old. His father started a clothing company which he was hoping James would run once he had finished his education but James had other ideas and left school when he was 16, just before he was due to take his exams leaving with no qualifications. James managed to secure a position in a recruitment role in which he excelled, explains Frontline Events Ltd researchers. A few years later in 1985 he founded Alexander Mann. While Alexander Mann was growing, Caan decided to try his hand at international marketing and founded Humana International, a franchising model to which he grew to 147 offices across 30 countries. These are both companies he sold in 1999. Frontline Events Ltd reveal James Caan is also CEO at Hamilton Bradshaw, which specialises in buyouts, turnarounds, real estate investment and venture capital in the UK. Frontline Events Ltd Managing Director, Gillian O’Brien said “It’s amazing how someone who left school with no qualifications has three ‘Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration’ awards. The recognition he has earned himself is brilliant and goes to show everyday people that anything can be achieved when you put your mind to it and perhaps education isn’t essential to be successful”

Frontline Events Ltd are inspired by Caan’s achievements and support his commitment to charity. James Caan set up The JCF which aims to help underprivileged children get access to education. Through this foundation, he has opened a 16 classroom school in his native, Lahore. When the floods hit Pakistan in 2010, James united with UNICEF and helped to raise over £100,000 to deliver aid for people affected by the crisis. Gillian O’Brien, Frontline Events Ltd MD said “I also find it very humble that James never forgot his roots. Like with many entrepreneurs, he wants to do his utmost to help people and most entrepreneurs say that they love to give back and make people happy. After all, this is a man that came to the UK and then changed his name so he would be more accepted in the business world.”

Frontline Events Ltd Ltd asks ‘how did a boy of 16 with no qualifications end up being one of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs?’ Caan always said his dad was the most inspirational person with an amazing work ethic having started up his own business from scratch. He also said he learnt a great amount of knowledge in a business respect has come from his role in recruitment. He loves negotiating and closing deals. He networks with the right people and he isn’t afraid of hard work. He wants to be able to have as many holidays as he chooses to, not as he can afford. Caan wanted the lifestyle he has and did everything in his power to make sure his dreams became a reality.

James Caan had a vision and never let anything get in the way of that, more recently he shares his knowledge with other budding entrepreneurs on how to be so successful.

Farrah Gray recommends ‘you should never be afraid to try anything in life because you don’t know what you can’t do until you try’. He also has his very own steps to success, an area of business Frontline Events Ltd often refer to.
